This One Summer

The artwork is absolutely stunning. I was definitely left awestruck and often speechless by Tamaki’s illustrations and ability to capture scenery and movements. However, the plot was a weakness for me. The author dips her toe into several areas of discussion (sexism, misguided crushes, teenage pregnancy, miscarriages, etc.), but she never fully commits to one or formulates a resolution. As a result, I was left feeling like there was too much potential discarded, and ultimately wanted more than the story delivered.
