A Study in Charlotte

Okay, so I’ve struggled to gather my thoughts into something that’s somewhat cohesive, and I guess that’s largely due to the fact that I was confused for several bits of this novel.

I buddy read this with The Slytherin Warlock, which greatly helped with my enjoyment of this book! It was fun and fast paced, albeit not as light as I thought it would be. For some reason, perhaps because of the juvenile cover or the fact that it’s a retelling, I expected this to read more like a middle grade. However, it turned out to deal with darker topics such as drug addiction and rape.

Although, I had fun and flew through this I definitely had some gripes with it. For one, I’m not a huge fan of action-packed books that feature a lot of plot lines in 300 or less so pages. I often find myself overwhelmed, which was my case with this book. I felt like it featured too much too fast, which didn’t allow certain plot points to shine or be as developed as I’d like.

That being said, it was a fun time even if I am still contemplating whether I’ll continue with the series.

  1. I love your reviews! You have no idea how relieved I was when I realized I didn’t have to swim through entire pages of text to get to your opinion ❤
